Acronym: PROFRUVIT

Number: III 46013

Grants: Project are funded by Ministry of education, science and technological development of Republic of Serbia

Overall objectives:
The basic fundamental concept, on which PROFRUVIT structure and activities have been developed, is inherent to two key points: genetic biodiversity and functional foods. The overall purpose of the PROFRUVIT project is to apply its innovations for the improvement of the cultivation and use of health beneficiary but underutilized fruit products, especially from indigenous varieties and to create the knowledge base for a sustainable economic development in the area of production and processing of fruits and grapes. This general goal is pursued through the development of specific objectives described hereafter.

Specific objectives:
The main objectives of the PROFRUVIT project are:
• Characterization of nutritive and biologically active ingredients in fruits and grapes with especial attention on regional varieties and selection of genotypes with high polyphenol content.
• Formulation of traditional products with added value and new, innovative, high quality functional food and dietary products from fruits.
• Investigation of the impact of processing and storage on the quality of products.
• Chemical characterization of by-products in fruits and grapes processing.
• Study of biological profile of fruits and grape and related products and by-products through in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo experiments.
• Best practice guidelines for cultivation practices for berries production.
• Increased farmer and consumer knowledge on fruits and grapes and their use by targeted dissemination activities.
